    Abstract:

    Fuel cells are seen as the efficiency technology of the future. The idea behind it is more than 180 years old: hydrogen plus oxygen generate electricity and heat. What now enables particularly efficient powering and heating, was used many years ago already in space - and now also in power generation, cogeneration, tri-generation and quadrant (plants with CO2 segregation for the beverage industry), transportation (cars, trucks and trains) and aviation.
    This paper will highlight the basics of fuel cell technology and explain the use of ready for the market technologies
