Current position: Emeritus professor at Aalto University. Finland. Earlier career: MSc in 1964, DSc in 1970 (metallurgy) at Helsinki University of Technology. Research manager, chief metallurgist OVAKO OY AB, Imatra, 1970-1979 Professor of metallurgy at Helsinki University of Technology 1979-2009 when retired. Fields of expertise: fundamentals of metallurgical processes; recent research topics: energy saving and sustainability in processes, primary & secondary steelmaking Number of publications: over 250 articles in international journals and conference proceedings. Editor/author/co-author in books “Treatise on Process Metallurgy” Vol 3 Industrial Processes, Part A Ferrous Process Metallurgy 2014; Basics of Ferroalloys; In: Gasik, M. (Ed.), Handbook of Ferroalloys: Theory and Technology. 2013. Numerous consulting tasks in companies and universities for instance in Finland, China, Japan, India, Australia, Mongolia, Turkey. Awards: Professor at NEU University, Shenyang China in 1991. Honorary symposium “Separation Technologies III at Copper Mountain, Colorado in 2004; the 2012 AIST John F. Elliott Lecturer Award; honorary member of the Finnish Association of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers and the Finnish Academy of Technical Sciences, in 2013.
