Short Bio:

Alois Loidl is a professor of experimental physics at the faculty of mathematics, natural sciences and technology of the University of Augsburg (Germany). His research interests focus on relaxation phenomena of soft and disordered matter, with emphasis on glass transition of supercooled liquids. In addition, he is highly active in the fields of quantum magnetism and strongly correlated materials. After graduation in civil engineering at the Technical University of Vienna (Austria) in 1971, he received his Ph.D. (Dr.phil.nat.) in experimental physics from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/M (Germany) in 1976 and his 'Habilitation' degree in 1981 from the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany). Since 1982, Alois Loidl was Assistant and from 1986 Associate Professor at the University of Mainz. Since 1991, he became Full Professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany) before joining the faculty of the University of Augsburg in 1996. Alois Loidl was Vice President of the University of Augsburg from 2003 until 2010 and Acting President from 2010 until 2011. So far, he authored approximately 800 publications in peer-reviewed journals and in scientific books.
