SYMPOSIUM and ROUND TABLE TOPICS

"Coatings for extreme environments" represents a challenging environment for materials development since it offers flexibility in surface engineering without changing the bulk materials properties. Indeed, modern industrial and manufacturing processes demand efficiency gains where structural materials may face severe combined thermal, chemical, wear, and mechanical loads. Therefore, the choice and production of these materials with appropriate properties becomes a critical lynchpin for any industrial production process. In addition, the extension in service life represents a major economic objective because it decreases material costs due to replacement; but more importantly, it reduces significantly the costs associated with regular maintenance shutdowns. And finally, the quality of the produced components can be maintained; thereby participating in a global improvement of industrial productivity and competitiveness. The application of coatings on engineered components; as part of either an OEM-specified, remanufactured or repair strategy, is a viable option for all industrial sectors. For instance, this approach has become a mainstay within the chemical industry, power generation (waste incinerators, combustion/gasification processes, energy harvesting), aeronautics (thermal shield, blade protection), pulp and paper industry, and a host of manufacturing industries (foundry, injection molding, etc.).

This symposium aims to cover the following topics, keeping in mind that there is scope for incorporation of other pertinent topics:
