PRACTICAL INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS & ATTENDEES:
CURRENCY:
In Brazil, the official currency is the Brazilian Real (BRL). US dollars and euros are not commonly accepted for daily transactions, so it is strongly recommended to exchange your currency into Brazilian Reais. Currency exchange services are available at airports, banks and exchange offices.
BANKING AND CURRENCY EXCHANGE:
Currency exchange facilities are available at Rio de Janeiro International Airport (GIG), as well as at banks and authorized exchange offices throughout the city. ATMs are widely available and most accept international cards, dispensing cash in Brazilian Reais. Credit and debit cards are commonly accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shops, especially in tourist areas like Copacabana.
ELECTRICITY:
Brazil operates on a 127V / 220V and 60Hz electrical system. The standard plug types are Type C (two round pins) and Type N (three round pins). Travelers may need a plug adapter depending on their home country. It is advisable to check that your electronic devices are compatible with the voltage used in Brazil.
