Abstract:

Brazil's transition to Net Zero is reshaping the planning, operation, and investment strategies for the long-term development of its Interconnected Power System. This lecture will examine the reliability risks and resilience challenges that arise from the exponential growth of renewable energy sources. The discussion will focus on increased system complexity, reduced flexibility, and evolving operational requirements. It will also address the technical, regulatory, and institutional challenges of maintaining security, adequacy, and flexibility in a rapidly changing power sector. The talk will provide insights into the opportunities and risks associated with ensuring a more secure and sustainable energy transition in Brazil.
