OLEVSKY INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

on Composite, Ceramic & Nano Materials Processing, Characterization & Applications (12th Intl. Symp.)

Eugene_Olevsky
Bio | CV | Publications
This major international symposium is organized in honor of the distinguished scientific career and lifetime achievements of Professor Eugene A. Olevsky, a globally recognized leader in materials science, mechanical engineering, and advanced manufacturing. He currently serves as Dean of the College of Engineering and Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at San Diego State University and is Director of the Powder Technology Laboratory. Professor Olevsky is internationally known for his pioneering contributions to powder materials processing, sintering science, and field-assisted manufacturing technologies.

Professor Olevsky is widely recognized as the author of the continuum theory of sintering, a foundational framework that has fundamentally transformed the understanding and modeling of densification phenomena in powder-based materials. His career is marked by scientific depth, originality, and sustained impact on both fundamental research and industrial practice. His work seamlessly integrates theory, experimentation, and computation, setting new standards in the field of materials processing.

His research has encompassed a broad spectrum of advanced processing methods, including powder metallurgy, ceramic and composite materials processing, additive manufacturing, and ultra-rapid field-assisted consolidation technologies. A defining aspect of his work has been the development and advancement of sintering-assisted additive manufacturing approaches, as well as spark plasma sintering, flash sintering, microwave sintering, and electro-current-assisted processing. These innovations have enabled unprecedented control over processing kinetics, microstructure evolution, and energy efficiency.

Throughout his career, Professor Olevsky has authored more than 560 scientific publications and presentations, holds multiple patents, and has delivered over 150 invited and keynote lectures at major international conferences. His scholarly contributions have had wide-reaching influence across aerospace, energy, biomedical engineering, electronic packaging, and nuclear materials applications. His publications on sintering theory and field-assisted materials processing are among the most highly cited works in the field.

Professor Olevsky’s scientific and professional achievements have been recognized with numerous prestigious international honors. These include the Distinguished Scientist and Engineer Award from The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society, the Champion H. Mathewson Award, the Pfeil Award from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining in the United Kingdom, and the Frenkel Prize of the International Institute for Science of Sintering. He has been named an Academician of the World Academy of Ceramics and elected Fellow of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASM International, and the American Ceramic Society. He is also a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and has been elected as a foreign member of national academies of engineering and science in multiple countries.

Professor Olevsky has played a central role in shaping the global powder materials and sintering research community. He serves as Chair of the International Sintering Conferences, widely regarded as the de facto World Congress on Sintering, and as Vice President of the International Institute for Science of Sintering. Through these roles, he has fostered international collaboration and guided the evolution of modern sintering and powder processing science.

In addition to his research accomplishments, Professor Olevsky is a dedicated mentor and academic leader. He has supervised more than 100 graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting scholars from around the world. As Dean, he has emphasized innovation in engineering education, interdisciplinary research, and the integration of advanced manufacturing technologies into academic programs.

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS
A round table discussion open to all participants will be organized during the symposium. This forum will bring together leading representatives from academia, industry, and national laboratories to engage in high-level discussions on the scientific, technological, and industrial challenges addressed by the symposium. Topics will include future directions in composite, ceramic, and nano materials processing, advanced field-assisted manufacturing, energy-efficient technologies, and real-world applications.

Participants are cordially invited to contribute to the symposium by submitting and presenting a paper or by actively engaging in the round table discussions. We look forward to welcoming you to this international symposium dedicated to advancing materials processing, characterization, and applications.
