HIRANO INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM

on Oxidative Stress for Sustainable Development of Human Beings (6th Intl. Symp.)

Shigeru_Hirano
Bio | CV | Publications
This major symposium is in honor of the distinguished work and lifetime achievements of Dr. Shigeru Hirano, a very well-known professional with deep impact in oxidative stress for sustainable development of human beings.

Dr. Shigeru Hirano was born in 1964 in Fukuoka, Japan. After graduating from Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine in 1990, he joined the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Kyoto University Hospital. While working as a clinical surgeon, he made basic research in Kyoto University Graduate School from 1994 to 1998. He conducted research on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in the head and neck region, particularly the larynx. After obtaining PhD degree, he worked at UCLA and University of Wisconsin-Madison as a visiting researcher from 1999 to 2003. He revealed the mechanism of vocal fold wound healing and regeneration, and developed several treatment approaches for vocal fold regeneration using stem cells, growth factors, and scaffolds.

In 2016, he was appointed professor and chair at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine. While he set up several clinical studies for voice disorder patients using the regenerative methods he had developed on the translational research platform, he met Prof. Haruhiko Inufusa, the founder of the strong anti-oxidant Twendee X (TWX) and began research for maintenance and anti-aging of the voice and swallow using TWX. Laboratory works have clearly demonstrated the effects of TWX on protection of the laryngeal function against injury and aging. The research is now continued and translated to clinical commitments.

With the efforts of Dr Inufusa, the research into the mechanisms of action of the TWX range and the prevention and treatment of diseases using these products has continued to bear fruit, with numerous publications and academic presentations. The diseases targeted include cancer, dementia, diabetes, systemic sclerosis (designated as an intractable disease in Japan), infertility, sleep apnea syndrome, radiation damage, hearing loss, dysphagia, dysphonia, allergies, acne and many others.

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS
A round table discussion open to everyone interested will be organized during the symposium. This will allow high level representatives of various industries, technologies, and academic disciplines to discuss and debate freely, without reservations, all topics of this symposium and identify possible research and development pathways towards a future industry with increased sustainability.

You are cordially invited to actively participate in this symposium by submitting and presenting a paper, or by attending the round table. We look forward to meeting you at this world class symposium.
