    Corrosion

    SYMPOSIUM and ROUND TABLE TOPICS

Corrosion is an electrochemical phenomenon whereby materials (usually metals) undergo oxidation as a result of various environmental conditions such as exposure to extreme temperature, corrosive and abrasive fluids, humidity, harsh chemical and others. The type, level and rate of corrosion depends on such conditions as well as on the susceptibility of the material.

Corrosion is considered to be a global challenge since it causes grave economic costs and high ecological (environmental) damages. Finding solutions such as corrosion-resistant materials is a necessary step towards sustainability.

In this symposium, topics covered include, but not limited to:

    • Types and conditions of corrosion
    • Fundamentals and advances in alloy corrosion
    • Corrosion Engineering
    • Corrosion inhibitors
    • Corrosion cracking (Stress, high-temperature)
    • Rate models of corrosion
    • Corrosion Control Technologies
    • Corrosion protection:
      • Surface treatments and coatings
      • Cathodic and Anodic protection
      • Controlled permeability formwork
