This major symposium is in honor of the distinguished work and lifetime achievements of Mr. Sergio Leite, BSc, MSc, a very well-known professional with deep rooted impact in Advanced Sustainable Iron & Steel Making.
Sergio Leite de Andrade is Chairman of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Strategic Development of Usiminas, and from 2016 to May 2022, he was the company's Chief Executive Officer. With more than 40 years of career at Usiminas, he has successively held 14 executive positions, serving on the Company's Statutory Board since 2008. Graduated in Metallurgical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and Master in Metallurgical Engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), he has specializations as a Quality Engineer (CQE) and Quality Auditor (CQA) from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and the Brazilian Quality Control Association (ABCQ). He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Instituto Aço Brasil since 2008, having held the Vice-Presidency of the Board (2016 to 2018) and the Presidency (2018 to 2020). He is President of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Association of Metallurgy and Materials - ABM, of which he was also Vice President (2019 to 2021) and Director for two terms (1993/1995 and 1998/1999). He is a member of the Strategic Council of the Federation of Industries of Minas Gerais - FIEMG (since 2017). With more than 60 technical works published in Congresses in Brazil and abroad and teaching experience at universities in the country, he was also a member of the Technology Committee of the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), between 1994 and 2000, and a member of the ULSAB Project / World Steel Association (Ultra Light Steel Auto Body) from 1997 to 2008, in addition to being Vice President of the Minas Gerais Society of Engineers, from 1999 to 2005. In the 1990s, he served on the Board of Directors of the Universidade do Leste de Minas, Unileste. He has given more than 200 lectures at various events since the 1980s, covering topics in the areas of Metallurgy, Quality, Leadership, Ethics, Research and Development, Administration, Marketing, International Trade, Steel, Management, etc.
ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS
A round table discussion open to everyone interested will be organized during the symposium. This will allow high level representatives of various industries, technologies, and academic disciplines to discuss and debate freely, without reservations, all topics of this symposium and identify possible research and development pathways towards a future industry with increased sustainability.
