PRACTICAL INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS & ATTENDEES:
CURRENCY:
In Brazil, the official currency is the Brazilian Real (BRL). US dollars are generally accepted for transactions, however, it is advisable to exchange your currency for Reais. Currency exchange services are available at airports, banks, and authorized exchange bureaus (câmbio). It’s also convenient to withdraw cash in BRL from ATMs located throughout the city.
BANKING AND CURRENCY EXCHANGE:
Currency exchange facilities can be found at Rio de Janeiro's international airport (Galeão), as well as in banks and authorized exchange offices. ATMs are widely available across the city.
ELECTRICITY:
Brazil operates on a 127V and 60Hz electrical system in most areas, including Rio de Janeiro. Some hotels may offer 220V outlets, so it’s best to check in advance. The standard plug types are Type N and Type C (two round pins). Travelers from countries using different plug types or voltages may need adapters or converters. Ensure your devices are compatible with the local voltage.
HOTEL AMENITIES:
Hotels in Rio de Janeiro typically provide a wide range of amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. These may include complimentary Wi-Fi, luggage storage, concierge services, laundry facilities, and room service. Many hotels also offer recreational facilities, such as swimming pools, fitness centers, spas, and access to local tours and excursions. For family travelers, some hotels provide activities and amenities tailored to children.
