Short Bio:
Dr. Henry Tan is the Chairman of the International Symposium on Energy Challenges and Mechanics (1st-6th), and founding editor of the Journal of Energy Challenges and Mechanics. He was a Guest Professor of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Zhejiang University (2008-2012); a Guest Professor of the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (2004-2006); a Visiting Assistant Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Louisiana State University (2001-2002); a Research Assistant Professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Utah (2000-2001); a Research Scientist of the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2003-2007). He moved to UK and joined the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, University of Manchester, England (2007-2009) as a Lecturer, and later School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen, Scotland as a Senior Lecturer. Dr. Tan has a BEng in Engineering Mechanics, a BSc in Modern Applied Physics, and a PhD in Solid Mechanics from Tsinghua University; he received his post-doctoral training from Brown University. Dr. Tan publishes research papers in leading journals such as Physical Review Letters, Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids etc.; delivers plenary/keynote lectures at international conferences related to energy/safety/biomechanics; and give invited seminers at institutions such as Department of Physics and Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge University; Tsinghua and Peking Universities; and International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM), Italy.
