Sebastjan Perko

Short Bio:

I am Sebastjan Perko, DMD, PhD. I was invited to attend SIPS by prof. Dubois and prof. Kobe. I finished my degree at the Medical Faculty in Ljubljana, Department of Dental Medicine, and continued with a PhD at the International Postgraduate School of the Jo¾ef Stefan Institute. My main area of work was dental ceramics, where we tried to lower the elastic modulus of zirconium oxide ceramics. After my PhD I was involved in establishing a dental clinic in Ljubljana, where I am co-owner and CEO. However, science is still my main guide to life. I am especially keen on exploring new frontiers in dental materials. My areas of personal interest are biocompatible and bioactive materials that are more suitable to put in one’s body than metals or metal alloys, as is the case in most of today’s dental offices. At our clinic most of the dental work is done using various, mostly bio-inert, materials used in conservative and prosthetic dentistry. Currently, we started a research project with the Jo¾ef Stefan Institute on bioactive calcium and/or aluminum silicate materials that are already used in the field of endodontics. Our plan is to upgrade the handling properties so that the existing material, namely MTA, can be used in general dental practices. \\\\r\\\\n\\\\r\\\\nWith best regards, \\\\r\\\\nSebastjan.
