Short Bio:

Yannis F. Dafalias is Distinguished Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of California at Davis, USA, and Emeritus Professor of the Department of Mechanics of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece. He received the Diploma of Civil Engineering from NTUA in 1969, the M.Sc. in Engineering Mechanics from Brown University in 1971, and the Ph.D in Engineering Sciences for the University of California at Berkeley in 1975. His major contributions are in Plasticity, Continuum, Structural and Soil Mechanics. He is the recipient of several awards, among them the Huber (1987), Norman (2012) and Newmark (2012) Medals from ASCE.
