DAVIS JOSEPH’S UNIFIED THERAPEUTIC THEORY OF CANCER SURPASSES 6,000 DOWNLOADS496
Published in Cell Death & Discovery, the study proposes a molecular classification of cancer based on a universal network of approximately 100 interconnected apoptosis pathways.
A scientific paper led by Dr. Davis Joseph, Assistant Professor at Gifu University and Biochemistry Research Director at FLOGEN Technologies, has surpassed 6,000 accesses only four months after its publication in Cell Death & Discovery, a Nature Portfolio journal.
Entitled “A Unified Therapeutic Theory for Treating Cancer via Master Regulators of the Universal Apoptosis Network,” the paper challenges the traditional organ-specific approach to cancer classification. Instead of categorizing cancers solely according to where they develop, the authors propose classifying them according to the molecular mechanisms driving the disease.
The study is based on a critical analysis and synthesis of 172 scientific publications. From thousands of individual findings, the researchers constructed a comprehensive biochemical flowsheet comprising approximately 100 interconnected apoptosis pathways—about 80% associated with activation and 20% with inhibition. This systems-level analysis considers the complex interactions between proteins and regulatory RNAs that are often studied separately.
Based on this universal apoptosis network, the paper identifies three proposed molecular types of cancer, regardless of their anatomical origin:
• Type 1: Cancer cells lack a functional P14ARF or P53 gene.
• Type 2: Cancer cells lack a functional DINO long non-coding RNA.
• Type 3: Cancer cells exhibit abnormally high MDM2 protein activity.
The authors also identify potential master regulators and therapeutic targets for each molecular category. Their framework could contribute to the development of cancer treatments based on shared molecular mechanisms across organs, although further experimental and clinical validation will be essential.
The originality of this theoretical work lies in its exceptional breadth and synthesis. By critically connecting findings from 172 publications into one integrated model, Dr. Joseph and his collaborators moved beyond the study of isolated pathways to propose a broader interpretation of the molecular mechanisms involved in cancer.
Dr. Davis Joseph is expected to present another major scientific development at SIPS 2026, where researchers, industry leaders and decision-makers from around the world will gather to exchange knowledge and establish new international collaborations.
Abstract submissions remain open for a limited time. Researchers are invited to present their work and participate in SIPS 2026.

FLOGEN Sustainability through Science and Technology / Sustainable Industrial Processing Summit (SIPS), is a yearly event that is deeply science-focused and technology & engineering-oriented. It has been organized since 2003 by the not-for-profit corporation. FLOGEN Stars Outreach (https://www.flogen.org), which is dedicated to achieving sustainability through science and technology. It incorporates summit plenary lectures from well-known speakers that address the link between scientific, technology and engineering domains in the pursuit of sustainable development, as well as specific science, technology and engineering symposia that feature technical presentations with the same goals in mind.
Based on the FLOGEN Sustainability Framework (https://flogen.org/pdf/sips16_524FS.pdf), following a long and rich tradition, the summit covers 3 sustainability pillars: (1) Science, Technology & Industry, (2) Governance & Management and (3) Education & Civil Society.
It attracts the participation of numerous Nobel Laureates and many Distinguished Guests. It features in average about 50 scientific and technology symposia covering various distinguished fields. Academics, Engineers, Managers, Directors, CEOs, Medical Doctors, Lawyers, Economists and Politicians are in attendance.
