Antonello Merlino is a Full Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Naples Federico II. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences and has established a strong research profile in the fields of structural biology and bioinorganic chemistry. His scientific work focuses on protein metalation, protein–protein interactions, and the mechanisms of metalloenzymes, with a particular emphasis on the interaction between metallodrugs and proteins.
Prof. Merlino is an expert in X-ray crystallography, molecular dynamics, and protein engineering. His research contributes to the design of artificial metalloenzymes and the development of novel metal-based therapeutics. He has published over 270 peer-reviewed articles and has an h-index of 42, reflecting the impact of his work on the international scientific community.
He is also actively involved in scientific outreach and education, participating in numerous initiatives to promote chemistry among students and the public. Prof. Merlino regularly collaborates with national and international research groups and serves as a reviewer and editor for several scientific journals.
