Dr. Florian Kongoli, President and CEO of FLOGEN Technologies Inc., recently welcomed internationally renowned musical artist Shakira to the distinguished circle of Honorary Citizens of Rio de Janeiro.
As an Honorary Citizen of Rio de Janeiro himself — and recognized as the first and only scientist in the world to receive this distinction from the “Marvelous City” — Dr. Kongoli expressed his pleasure in welcoming Shakira into this select international group of personalities closely connected to Rio de Janeiro.
He noted that Shakira now joins other globally celebrated music icons such as Madonna and Lady Gaga, further enriching the cultural prestige associated with the city.
Dr. Kongoli also highlighted the symbolic connection between science and music in the context of FLOGEN SIPS 2026, which will take place from November 30 to December 3, 2026, at the iconic Rio Othon Palace, located only a few steps away from the site of Shakira’s historic world-record concert attended by approximately 2 million fans on Copacabana Beach.
SIPS 2026 will bring together Nobel Laureates, leading scientists, innovators, policymakers, and industrial leaders from around the world to advance sustainable development through science and technology. The summit is also expected to feature one of the strongest participations of women scientists in its history, emphasizing the importance of global support for women in science, innovation, and leadership.
By connecting science, culture, music, and international collaboration, FLOGEN SIPS 2026 continues to position itself as a unique global platform where knowledge, inspiration, and human creativity come together in one of the world’s most vibrant cities.
