FLOGEN Star Outreach proudly celebrates a second milestone by Davis Joseph, recipient
of the 2024 Semenza International Cell Engineering in Medicine Award. His latest single-
author article, "The Unified Theory of Neurodegeneration Pathogenesis Based on Axon
Deamidation," has achieved over
2,500 downloads in just one month, setting a new
benchmark in scientific publishing.

This pioneering paper presents a unifying theory that identifies a common master switch
underlying Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other brain-related diseases. The discovery holds
promise for transformative, cross-cutting therapeutic approaches in neurodegenerative
disease treatment.
This is Joseph’s second major breakthrough. His previous single-author publication in the
Q1-ranked International Journal of Molecular Sciences was accessed over
9,000
times in just six months, already a rare achievement in the scientific community.

For this earlier work, Davis Joseph was honored at SIPS 2024 with the Semenza
International Cell Engineering in Medicine Award, presented personally by Prof. Gregg
Semenza, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine (2019).
Scientific Significance and Global Context
Joseph’s publications represent a rare and impactful form of scientific authorship:
Both articles are single-author contributions—a format that made up only 0.43% of all
research papers in 2020 (
source , Fig. 5B & Table 3).
The author conducted all theory development, experimentation, and methodology
independently.
In comparison, many modern papers involve massive collaborations—one recent paper
lists 5,154 co-authors.
Contextual Comparison:
The average article in a Q1 journal receives just 631 views in the first three months
(
source ).
A study of 320 published articles in Archives of Plastic Surgery found that most papers
received fewer than 50 accesses (
source ).
In stark contrast, Joseph’s latest article reached 2,500+ downloads in only 30 days,
making it a record-setting accomplishment—especially for a single-author work.
For this achievement, Davis Joseph has been invited to deliver a plenary lecture at
SIPS 2025, which will be held in Cebu, Philippines, from 17–20 November 2025.
