Description of organizations visited

Institut Jean Lamour is the largest public research facility dedicated to materials science in France and one of the largest in Europe. With more than 500 staff members, it addresses four specific areas of materials science: metallurgy and metallurgical processing, solid state compounds and surface coatings, solid state physics and especially magnetic nanomaterials, and materials for health and medical applications. It houses a specifically designed piece of equipment for the preparation and study of nanomaterials under ultra-high vacuum, which so far is unique worldwide.

The industry and commerce chamber of Nancy is a beautiful example of the buildings built in this city before the first world war in the style of "art nouveau" (jugendStil in German). Other cities where this style was developed during the same period in time are Vienna, Brussels, and Barcelona. A nice account of this specific house can be found in Wikipedia:
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chambre_de_commerce_et_d%27industrie_Grand_Nancy_M%C3%A9tropole_Meurthe-et-Moselle

At this moment, the house welcomes a special exhibition dedicated to the glasses and pieces of art related to the same period and which were produced in a glass factory that has now disappeared, but was a signature of the "art nouveau" style. The exhibition is organised by Francis d'Alascio, an academician of ALS.

The virtual hospital of Lorraine is an innovative educational platform that was designed to educate and train students in different areas of health professions, and to allow professionals to prepare surgery interventions. The areas concerned are in medicine, pharmacy, orthodontic, and sport medicine. Based on numerical simulation and digital techniques, the platform is equipped with six simulators that we will visit under the guidance of Prof. Tran Nguyen, the director, who is also in charge of the cardiac surgery school of the medicine faculty.
