FLORIAN KONGOLI MEETS NOVA FRIBURGO MAYOR JOHNNY MAYCON IN BRAZIL 499

Dr. Florian Kongoli met with Nova Friburgo Mayor Johnny Maycon to discuss the municipality's progress following the adoption of the FLOGEN Sustainability Framework and the initiatives that will be presented at SIPS 2026 in Rio de Janeiro.

Dr. Florian Kongoli, Chairman of FLOGEN, met with Mayor Johnny Maycon at the Municipal Building of Nova Friburgo, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the city’s recent achievements and its continuing commitment to sustainable development.

Nova Friburgo is one of the largest municipalities by territory in the state of Rio de Janeiro, covering approximately 935.4 km² and serving a population of about 203,000 people. Under Mayor Maycon's leadership, the municipality incorporated the FLOGEN Sustainability Framework into its local legal framework in September 2024, becoming the first city known to formally adopt the framework through municipal legislation.

The FLOGEN Sustainability Framework promotes a balanced approach to environmental protection, economic development and social well-being. Its adoption by Nova Friburgo represents an important example of how sustainability principles can be translated into concrete public policy at the municipal level.

During the meeting, Mayor Maycon shared several developments achieved since the framework was adopted. These include his reelection as mayor, Nova Friburgo’s recognition among the leading cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro for quality of life, and the strong electoral performance of candidates he supported in recent state and federal elections.

Mayor Johnny Maycon will present Nova Friburgo's experience and sustainability achievements at SIPS 2026 in Rio de Janeiro. His participation will offer delegates an opportunity to examine how a global sustainability framework can be implemented through local governance and adapted to the priorities of a growing municipality.

SIPS 2026 will bring together scientists, industry leaders, government representatives and decision-makers from around the world to exchange knowledge, present practical solutions and develop new international collaborations in sustainability.
